Here are some tips you may to consider as a starter guide to self improvement.
Imagine yourself as a Dart Board. Everything and everyone else around you may become darts, at one point or another. These darts will destroy your self esteem and pull you down in many different ways. Don’t let them destroy you, or get the best of you. So which darts should you avoid to increase your self esteem and feeling of well-being, which in turn leads to happiness?
Dart #1 : Negative Work Environment
Beware of “dog eat dog” theory where everyone else is fighting just to get ahead. This is where non-appreciative people usually thrive. No one will appreciate your contributions even if you miss lunch and dinner, and stay up late. Most of the time you will end up over-worked and without any recognition or support from a negative workplace.
Competition is everywhere, but you need to be healthy enough to compete, and, more importantly in a healthy competition.
Dart #2: Other People’s Behaviour
Bulldozers, gossipmongers, whiners, backstabbers, snipers, people walking wounded, controllers, naggers, complainers, exploders, patronizers, … all these kinds of people will pose bad vibes for your self esteem, as well as to your self improvement scheme.
Dart #3: Changing Environment
Change can paralyze you with fear because it will take you into the unknown. It will attack your confidence level and challenge you. Be open to change and let it work for your self improvement. It tests our flexibility, adaptability and alters the way we think. Change will make life difficult for a while, it may cause stress but it will help us find ways to improve ourselves. Change will be there forever, we must embrace it.
Dart #4: Past Experience
It’s okay to cry and say “ouch!” when we experience pain. But don’t let pain transform itself into fear. It might grab you by the tail and swing you around. Treat each failure and mistake as a lesson. Learn from any experience whether good or bad.
Dart #5: Negative World View
Look with different eyes. Don’t wrap yourself up in all the negativities of the world. In building self esteem, we must learn how to make the best out of the worst situations. If you can begin to look for an upside to everything and be grateful for it - then there you have already found hope.
Dart #6: Determination Theory
The way you are and your behavioral traits is said to be a mixed end product of your inherited traits (genetics), your upbringing (psychic), and your environmental surroundings such as your spouse, the company, the economy or your circle of friends. You have your own identity. If your parent is a failure, it doesn’t mean you have to be a failure too. Learn from other people’s experience, so you never need to encounter the same mistakes.
Are some people born leaders or positive thinkers?
NO.
Being positive, and staying positive is a choice. Building self esteem and drawing lines for self improvement is a choice, not a rule or a talent.
Building self esteem will eventually lead to self improvement if we start to become responsible for who we are, what we have and what we do. Its like a flame that should gradually spread like a bush fire from inside and out. When we develop self esteem, we take control of our mission, values and discipline. Self esteem brings about self improvement, true assessment, and determination.
So how do you start putting up the building blocks of self esteem?
Be positive. Be contented and happy. Be appreciative. Never miss an opportunity to compliment. A positive way of living and thinking will help you build self esteem, your starter guide to self improvement.

SELF IMPROVEMENT ~ UNLOCK YOUR POWER
When we look at a painting – you will I am sure agree, that we can't actually appreciate it, if the painting is just an inch away from our face. But if we step back a little further, we have a clearer vision of the whole art work. You may like what you see , or you may not.
We reach a point in our life when we are ready for change and open to information that will help us unlock our self improvement power and to start to see ourselves. Self improvement can lead to a real sense of happiness.
Until then, something can be right under our nose but we don’t really see it. The only time we think of unlocking our self improvement power is when everything starts to go wrong, or life seems to become more difficult for us, or perhaps you just start to question what life is all about.... We often learn our lessons when we experience pain. We finally see the warning signs and signals when things get rough and tough.
When do we realize that we need to change diets? When none of our jeans and shirts would fit us. When do we stop eating sweets and chocolates? When we feel the effects in our daily wellness or have to get an emergency dental appointment.
When do we realize that we need to stop smoking? When our coughing hurts or somebody close is under the surgeon.
When do we pray and ask for help? When we realize that we’re going to die tomorrow.
When do we decide to look at trying to get more money, or a better job? When we can't pay the bills.
The only time most of us ever learn about unlocking our self improvement power is when the whole world is crashing and falling apart. We think and feel this way because it is not easy to change. But change becomes more painful when we ignore it.
Change will happen, like it or hate it. At one point or another, we are all going to experience different turning points in our life – and we are all going to eventually unlock our self improvement power, not because the world says so, not because our friends and family are nagging us, but because we realize it's for our own good.
Happy people don’t just accept change, they embrace it.
Unlocking your self improvement power means unlocking yourself from the cage of thought that constantly tells you “its just the way I am”. Over the years, that is what you programme yourself to believe.
Self improvement is about looking at things in from a different point of view. It is also about taking small steps to change, concentrating on an area at a time. thinking about all of those things that you are unhappy about and then making the decision to change. It is about embarking on a journey of self awareness and self worth. And understanding what it is you want and why and then plotting a course to achieve that.
Three sessions in a week at the gym would result in a healthier life. Reading, listening to or viewing self development resources instead of watching the TV will shape up a more profound knowledge. Going out with friends and peers will help you take a step back from work and unwind.
And just when you are enjoying the whole process of unlocking your self improvement power, you’ll realize that you’re beginning to feel happier.
